Angela Anthony Mias is an education and community-based learning specialist dedicated to advancing global education through experiential learning across schools, colleges, universities, and international education initiatives.

With more than 25 years of experience in the higher education sector, Angela has worked extensively across South Africa on programmes promoting student mobility, service learning, and community-based education. Her work at the Centre for Higher Education Trust (CHET) has provided her with a bird’s eye view of the African Higher Education landscape, through their research projects across several African countries. She has recently been associated with the South African Broadband Education Network (SABEN), supporting teaching and learning within South Africa’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges — institutions that equip young people with practical skills for meaningful employment and economic participation.

Her professional work spans teaching and learning development, skills readiness, communication for professional contexts, and programme collaboration. Angela has partnered closely with educators and institutions to strengthen learning practice, improve learner engagement, and build strategic relationships that enhance programme outcomes — particularly within complex, multilingual environments.

Most recently, she established a Skills Assessment and Accreditation Hub designed to validate practical competencies for artisans, informal workers, and TVET graduates. The initiative aims to strengthen employability and industry confidence by creating accessible, recognised certification pathways. Through this work, Angela continues to champion transformative education and practical training for artisans and lifelong learners.

Angela’s current focus also includes Communication Readiness programmes for primary and secondary school learners, supporting young people to communicate with confidence, accuracy, and credibility. These programmes are co-developed with partner institutions to align with real educational needs and contexts.

She is the founder of Angela Mias Education Network (AMEN) and works as an independent education consultant, facilitator, and programme designer with a strong interest in learning systems that connect education, skills, and opportunities.

She is also an author whose writing explores identity, justice, and lived experience, perspectives on land dispossession and restitution in the South African context.
